Summer Chic | Jigsaw 2012

Beehives, breton tops, mustachioed cuties and balmy summer evenings spent sporting French 60's chic in London. What's not to love. And I do really do love this spring/summer collection film from Jigsaw. Total summer style inspiration.

PHOTOGRAPHY DAVID DOUBILET

David Doubilet shoots for The National Geographic, amongst numerous other titles. I've always been fascinated by animals and in particular marine life (total nature documentary addict) and these photographs really give us an insight into what lies below the surface whilst fore-fronting the beauty that can be found in nature. Plus, the sun's out and I'm currently planning to go travelling around Thailand so these images of far flung tropical places and species are really getting me excited.

Issey Miyake Film: Dazed Digital

Dazed Digital 2012
Another day, another amazing fashion film. Alex Sainsbury and Robbie Spencer accompanied their June issue archive shoot for Dazed and Confused with a film for Dazed Digital. The shoot explores the archives of legendary designer ISSEY MIYAKE and is striking and enchanting with a fresh mix of colours, strong modern hair and makeup and, of course, clothes so well crafted (the stunning use of pattern, signature pleating)and curated the images feel otherworldly.

LONDON | SUMMER

The sun has finally arrived in London and it's bloody glorious. When the sun shines there's no better place to be in than the city. I LOVE the countryside, but also love the infectious buzz in the city, as everyone hurries outdoors to enjoy some much needed sunshine. Parks fill up with cheerful faces; picnicking and sipping beer, swimming in pools and lakes, throwing frisbees and walking dogs. People sit lazily outside bars and cafes, congregate in beer gardens and every possible outside space is utilised for good times. Cycling over Waterloo bridge in the evening sun, having drinks by the thames, sitting on Primrose Hill gazing at the blue sky backdrop to London's landscape. It doesn't really get any better than this. Here's to the start of Summer!..

COLLAB | JIM JARMUSCH

I've been meaning to waffle on about this ever since hearing about this exciting collaboration...

The Clever Is In The Details

It's no secret that ♥ Jim JarmuschJarmusch is a Director who always keeps full creative control of his film projects, and that includes the soundtracks. His film's cast an abundance of musicians including Tom Waits, Screamin Jay Hawkins, Iggy Pop, John Lurie, Wu Tang and The White Stripes and their soundtracks are always incredible - as I've previously mentioned. Jarmusch is also a musician; in the early 80's he was part of the no wave band, The Del-Byzanteens, and a slo-mo psychadelic band called Bad Rabbit. Unsurprisingly Jarmusch's influence has equal weighting in music as in film and that is how this news came about...

One day on the street, back in 2006, a Dutch minimalist composer called Jozef van Wissem handed Jarmusch a demo. This proved to be a wise move as Jarmusch subsequently asked him to score his next film (currently in production), Only Lovers Left Alive. Last year Jarmusch also played guitar on Wissem's track The Joy that Never Ends. This proved to be just the start of a collaborative muiscal relationship as Jarmusch and van Wissem are now working on an album titled Concerning the Entrance into Eternity and it's a corker. Jarmusch's droning guitar meets van Wissem's flute to create an album that is meditative and experiential. It's definitely tiding me over until his next film.

MUSIC | ATC PRESS SHOWCASE

Yesterday I went over to a music showcase held by ATC, an Artist Management company based in Camden, London. It was a fringe event held in line with The Camden Crawl Festival that's happening over this weekend. It's band central here!
Kwes
Whilst watching Eliza Dolittle soundcheck we befriended a lovely Boxer Dog owned by the super talented Kwes. Check out his new video.
Also in attendance was Keaton Henson. Much love for this guy. Great songwriter with a great voice.

Oh Burgundy are a Belgian two piece. There music was atmospheric and truly beautiful. Yep, I'm in love but who can blame me.

The Hall of Mirrors exceeded expectations. Lead singer Julie Walter's vocals are stunning and the music has a retro 60's feel with Walter's playing the sweetest of femme fatales. You can buy their digital album here.

Hall of Mirrors
Right folks I'm off to enjoy the rest of the bank holiday weekend. Happy listening!

FASHION | INBAR SPECTOR

London based Israeli-born designer Inbar Spector (great name!) is gaining acclaim internationally and it's no surprise when you look at her dramatic and edgie designs. Her Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, complete with face jewellery and her signature complex constructions and gofic edge is superb. Spector's mixed all this up with lashings of manga and fairytale references to create a magical collection as hypnotic as any fairytale potion. I'm definitely under her spell, are you?!
